S2
Description
The comfortable aero tubing frame
The S2 is the pioneer of carbon fiber aero road frames and already has the reputation for being the ultimate pro bike. That’s not surprising, given its long list of victories.
What about comfort?
Truth be told, many frames with aero tubing lack in comfort. At Cervélo, we have been designing aero road bikes for 15 years. We have the most experience in building aero frames without losing focus on weight, stiffness, strength AND comfort. So much so that Thor Hushovd has won cobblestone races on the S2.
The S2 is part of the S-series, our all-round models equally at home in fast solos and hilly terrain. With just a few grams more than the R-series, it offers a true aero advantage.
Experience:
1. Reduced aero drag to save energy.
2. A low geometry to put yourself in an aero position.
3. Proper road bike performance, because an aero focus shouldn’t compromise reduced weight, BB/torsional stiffness or comfort.

The S2 is the next generation of the Soloist Carbon, which already had the reputation for being the ultimate pro bike: not surprising, given its long list of victories. But it is maybe even more useful at the other end of the spectrum, giving an “unfair” advantage to those who just need a little bit more to hang on to their weekend rides. We know, because Cervélo co-founders Phil and Gerard are squarely in that category, and both own S2s.
While most of the aerodynamic drag is caused by the rider, around 25% is the bike. And bike aerodynamics is “always on”, no matter your riding position or fatigue level. Thanks to the latest Cervélo lay-up schedules, there is not even any weight or efficiency penalty compared to non-aero bikes. What more could you wish for, all pros, no cons (also a great slogan for drug-free cycling).
Highlights
Outstanding aerodynamics – Airfoil shapes designed by Cervélo for bicycle speeds, not for airplanes. Features that work, no aero gimmicks that work on a TT bike but not on a road bike.
No compromise - Extremely aerodynamic yet among the lightest frames in the pro peloton and with excellent stiffness & compliance properties.
Aero sloping toptube – Horizontal airfoil cross section for the toptube with 1:15 thickness-to-chord ratio make even the toptube an aero asset.
Stealth aero headtube – Hourglass shape on the sides allow for aero cross section without the need for a nose on the headtube.
Oversized bottom bracket area – Large diameter and smooth, optimized shapes increase bottom bracket stiffness for excellent power transfer from pedal to rear wheel.
Flexible geometry – The 2-position seatpost (optional) allows you to put your saddle in a 76 degree seattube angle position, ideal for the occasional triathlon. As the S2 is more aero than most of the full TT bikes on the market, this offers great triathlon performance without the need for a second bike. Of course, for regular triathlon use, a triathlon bike is still a better choice, thanks to the 78 degree seattube angle and dedicated triathlon geometry.
Upgrades over S1
Lighter frame – The S1 is very competitive in weight (as a past winner of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, it has to be), the use of carbon fiber allows a further weight reduction. This makes the S2 very competitive in weight even compared to frames without an aero advantage.
Higher bottom bracket and torsional stiffness - While even the biggest pro riders have no complaints about the S1’s stiffness, the S2’s additional torsional stiffness make it track through switchbacks in fast descents even better.
One-position aero carbon seatpost - to save weight, the S2 ships standard with an aero one-position seatpost. But the optional 2-position post will also fit on the S2, ideal for those looking to do the occasional triathlon in a moderately forward position.
No custom Cervélo is needed even for the most demanding pros, that’s our conclusion after supporting hundreds of the world’s best athletes. The reason we don’t need customs where other bike companies do lies in our unique reach-based geometry.
